The Wheel in Space
Written by: David Whitaker (story by Kit Pedler) 1st Aired: 27 Apr 68-1 Jun 68 Companions: Jamie, ZoeLocation: space station W3, 21st Century A.D. A power overload damages the Tardis, filling the console room with mercury vapour. The Doctor removes the Time Vector Generator and he and Jamie exit onto a deserted rocket ship, Silver Carrier, where the Doctor is injured by a servo-robot. Jamie signals to a nearby space station, and they are taken on board the Wheel. Jamie sabotages the laser-cannon to prevent Commander Bennett from blowing up the rocket with the Tardis still on board. Meteorites will hit the Wheel, unless the laser-cannon is repeared, but the bernalium rods it needs have been corroded by Cybermats. Crew members who find the bernalium on the rocket are taken over by the Cybermen, who smuggle aboard with the rods. As Bennett loses his sanity, more people are taken over by the Cybermen. Jamie and Zoe Harriot spacewalk to the rocket to get the Time Vector Generator, with which the Doctor hopes to defeat the Cybermen-if Jamie and Zoe survive the meteor shower.
