Written by: Bill Strutton 1st Aired: 13 Feb 65-20 Mar 65 Companions: Ian, Barbara, VickiLocation: planet Vortis The Tardis is drawn to a planet populated by gigantic ant-like creatures called the Zarbi, which are controlled by an intelligence called Animus. Barbara falls under control of the Animus via a gold bracelet she is wearing, but is freed by the Menoptera, flying insect people whose peaceful ways led to their being forced off the planet by the Animus. Now they are back to reclaim their home or die trying. As the Doctor and Vicki play for time inside the Animus's web, the Carsenome Barbara organizes the Menoptera for a strategic attack on the Animus, and Ian finds more allies underground. But it will all come to naught unless they can get the Menoptera weapon to the centre of the Carsenome!
