Rassilon was the founder of Time Lord society whose initial experiments took place in partnership with Omega. Stellar engineers, Rassilon and Omega detonated the heart of a neutron star to create the Eye of Harmony, the power source for most of Gallifrey's activities, especially time travel. Omega became trapped in an antimatter universe, so only Rassilon remained in power to shape the new order that followed. Gallifrey is littered with artifacts named after Rassilon and he appears in most of Gallifrey's legends. He designed the bow ships that destroyed the Great Vampires-yet one novel suggests that Rassilon himself may have adopted vampiric traits. His ability to cheat death surpassed even that of his regenerating fellows. Although entombed in the Dark Tower of Gallifrey's Death Zone, Rassilon is alive in spirit, capable of speaking with visitors-and turning a Time Lord into a living statue (The Five Doctors).
