Written by: Robert Sloman 1st Aired: 4 May 74-8 Jun 74 Companions: Sarah JaneLocation: contemporary Earth, planet Metebelis 3 Former UNIT Captain Mike Yates contacts journalist Sarah Jane Smith about strange doings at an English meditation center where five acolytes are using chanting to contact giant spiders on Metebelis 3.When their leader uses the Crystal of Power to open a gateway to the spiders' world, the Doctor and Sarah Jane discover human beings on the planet who are ruled and fed upon by the spiders. The Doctor leads a revolt of the humans before returning to Earth to foil the spiders' invasion plans. But the mysterious monk K'Anpo wants the Doctor to face the spiders one last time, although both know that the Time Lord cannot survive.
