The Daleks

The Daleks are the mutated remains of the Kaled race whose true form, that of a slug, is encased for protection and mobility within a metal shell. Although they are intelligent, they possess no individual aspirations, and they are total loyal to the Emperor Dalek, the black Dalek and Davros. The name Dalek is an anagram of the word Kaled, the race from which the Daleks were developed by Davros to defeat the Thals and become the masters of Skaro. They began to move through time and space, exterminating all who stood in their way to achieve their goal to dominate the universe. The Doctor has met the Daleks more often than any other adversary.

The Mechonoids (pictured left), are a large spherical robot, originally built by humans, inhabited a metal city on the planet Mechanus. All forms of life that they have encountered were regarded purely as subjects to study. The arrival of the Daleks created a battle in which the Mechonoids, their city and the group of Daleks their were fighting, all perished.

The only race that have created a weapon against the Daleks were the Movellans. The Movellans are ruthless androids which have a human appearance. They only work on logic (like the Daleks) which had brought them to an impasse. The Doctor blackmailed them into reprogramming their computer in order to defeat the Daleks, and he succeeded. Later the Movellan virus was created which destroys Daleks and was a powerful weapon that even Davros used to defeat them.

The Daleks are the most famous of any monsters ever in Doctor Who. The Daleks have appeared in many other television programs and they even featured in two films (both posters can be seen opposite). Both of these films starred Hammer Horror actor Peter Cushing.
