The Giant Maggots

The Giant Maggots were breeding in the mines below Global Chemicals, and they were mutated and nurtured by green slime. These maggots slowly burrowed to the surface and they stalked Jo and Cliff Jones with the Green Death. The Doctor followed the maggots but they slowly developed into a flying insect and they destroyed the remaining maggots with a fungicide solution.

Global Chemicals were an irresponsible corporation controlled by the mad computer BOSS. It was dumping chemical waste into mines and this produces the Green Death.

Professor Cliff Jones was a scientist and a Nobel Prize winner for his work on DNA synthesis. He started the Wholeweal community in Llanfairfach (in Wales), where they were researching into alternative foods and energy sources. He and the Doctor defeated the maggots and during the process Jo fell in love with the Professor and agreed to marry him.
