The Ice Warriors
The first warlord was Varga who was the commander of a Martian spaceship dispatched to Earth, which crashed during the first Ice Age and they were preserved for centuries in the ice, until Varga's frozen body was discovered during the second Ice Age. The warlord then revitalised his crew, but both he and his Ice Warriors fell victim to the heat of an ioniser, which caused them to kill themselves when they tried to blast themselves out of the ice.

The Ice Warriors are a powerful reptilian race from Mars. They are usually commanded by a warlord, physically more streamlined, intelligent and smarter, but equally as ruthless. The Doctor first encountered them frozen beneath the ice during Earth's second Ice Age. He also discovered their major weakness-heat. Having beaten them twice, the Doctor entered an uneasy alliance on Peladon to ensure the admittance to the Federation. A return visit to Peladon revealed a more sinister motive towards Peladon, which they invaded. They posed as a peaceful race and tried to steal the planet's deposits of
trisilicate.
The Ice Warriors have never formed an alliance with any other race, because they simply can't be trusted. 
The Picture o the left is of an Ice Warrior and the warlord Izlyr who was the ambassador to Peladon. He helped the Doctor to uncover the cospiracy to prevent Peladon's entry into the Federation.
