The Krotons

On a planet where the peaceful Gonds are ruled by the unseen Krotons, the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe cause a social upheaval when they rescue a young girl from being killed by the Kroton machine. Gond leader Selris has never suspected that the Krotons, who provide laws, culture and learning via their Teaching Machines. Now Selris' son Thara and other students try to smash the Teaching MAchines, and Eelek takes over from Selris as leader and orders an attack with slings and fireballs. Zoe and the Doctor enter the kroton machine, and discover that the Krotons are tellurium-based crystalline life forms who convert mental power to energy. They escape, but the Krotons tell Eelek that they will leave the planet if they turn the "high brains"-Zoe and the Doctor-over to them. And is more than willing to accept the bargain.
