An  explosion in a limestone quarry leaves Sarah buried in rubble. Reaching out, Sarah touches a disembodied silicon hand that was freed from the Jurassic-era rock. She's still hanging onto it-and an alien ring-as she is taken to hospital. Saying, "Eldrad must live," Sarah takes the hand to the out core of the nuclear power plant. The hand absorbs the radiation, giving it the power to regenerate. The Doctor frees Sarah from Eldrad's influence, but the plant employee takes the hand into the reactor core. Eldrad emerges as a mica-covered but beautiful woman. The Doctor agrees to return her to her own planet, Kastria, but not to the time when the others betrayed and tried to obliterate her. Eldrad regains his true form-a male one-and turns out to be a power-hungry being who is guilty of the genocide of his own people. The Kastrians have chosen to die out rather than let Eldrad rule them. Denied the chance to rule the Kastrians once more, Eldrad now wishes to rule Earth.
