Victorian scientist who, along with Theodore Maxtible, made a pact with the Daleks, proving them with both a route to and a base on Earth. They were researching their defeats and seeking out what exactly 'the human factor' was that gave their foes such an advantage. Although Theodore Maxtible helped them, Waterfield's main reason was that the Daleks held hi only daughter captive. Victoria Waterfield was used as bait by the Daleks to see what lengths the Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon would go to in an effort to save her. After realizing that the Daleks were evil, Waterfield traveled to Skaro with the Doctor to engineer their fleet. Waterfiled sacrificed his life to ensure that the Doctor succeeded in destroying the Daleks.
