A guerrilla who vanishes before his eyes threatens Sir Reginald Styles, the key figure in a crucial peace conference. As UNIT personnel roam the grounds, the Doctor and Jo meet some guerrillas from the future who want to kill Styles. Jo accidentally transports herself into the 22nd century, where a human Controller who rules this part of the planets convinces Jo that his government is wishing to do good, the Doctor when he arrives knows better. Chased by Ogrons, arrested, interrogated, and put through a mind probe by the Daleks, the Doctor sees the future as a very bad place. The guerrillas claim that Styles plunged the world into war by blowing p the peace conference. The Doctor realizes that it is one of the guerrillas whose explosive sets in motion the very events he came to prevent. As the Doctor tries to get he delegates out in time; the Daleks and Ogrons attack to make sure their version of the future remains the same.
