The Bessie

Bessie, the vintage yellow car with the license plate "WHO 1" (later "WHO 7") was obtained by UNIT soon after the Third Doctor exile to Earth, to replace a similar car which he "borrows" in Spearhead From Space. Bessie makes her first appearance in the following episode; even then it is apparent that the Doctor has made some improvements on the original model. For one thing, it is the fastest car UNIT has at the time. Other unexpected properties of the Doctor's car turn up in many episodes, such as a remote control (The Dæmons) and an anti-theft system (The Ambassadors of Death). The Third Doctor eventually gets the Whomobile, but Bessie continues to be used even after the Doctor regenerates, albeit only in one adventure. Once the Doctor's relationship with UNIT dwindles, Bessie then only appears in two adventures (Five Doctors and Battlefield).
